(2) MINUTES FROM THE STATE CONVENTION **********************************************************************

The State Convention was held on August 25th at the Richland County Public Library in Columbia.

WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION

The Convention was called to order at 1:10 p.m.

REORGANIZING CONVENTION

Report from Steering Committee on 2006-2007. David Whiteman reported on the 2006 election campaigns and other recent activities. The Party has $260 in the bank.

Proposed Bylaw Amendment. Members considered a proposed bylaw amendment to increase the number of Steering Committee members from seven to nine. By consensus, the convention decided not to change the size of the Steering Committee.

Election of Steering Committee Members. Four members were nominated for the Steering Committee, and all were elected. Three were elected to a two-year term (2007-2009): Gregg Jocoy, Nammu Muhammad, and David Whiteman. One was elected to serve the final year of an open two-year term (2006-2008): Bryan Smith.

PLANNING CONVENTION

We discussed upcoming opportunities for outreach. The Progressive Black Caucus is planning an event soon. We decided to allocate $100 for participating in the SC Pride March. And we discussed plans to participate in the School of the Americas protest, November 16-18.

RECESS

The Convention went into recess at 3:30 p.m.
